Get Involved

Maine Initiatives is focused on bringing people together around shared values and working towards collective action. We strive to be a bridge between individuals who want to live their values, and the pressing needs and movements surfaced by the BIPOC communities leading racial justice work in our state.  Here are some ways to stay connected to our work:

Newsletter Signup

Sign up for our monthly eNews: Scroll down on any page on our website and fill out the form to sign up for Maine Initiatives' news and updates. This is a great way to stay informed about our programs, the work of our grantees, calls for community action, and opportunities to get involved.

Become a Reader

Volunteer to be a Reader: Maine Initiatives convenes a broad base of community volunteers to assist in the decision-making process for our programs.

The 2026 Immigrant-Led Organizations Fund is now accepting applications for volunteer Readers. All are welcome! Review the Reader Opportunity Announcement for more details and application instructions. Reader applications are due by February 25, 2026 11:59PM ET.

Grantmaking Advisory Committee

Apply to be part of a Grantmaking Advisory Committee: Volunteer Readers for any grantmaking program can also apply to be part of its Grantmaking Advisory Committee. Committee members convene during annual grantmaking retreats to review applications and select the final grantee cohort. When you apply to become a volunteer Reader, you will have the opportunity to indicate if you would like to be considered for the Grantmaking Advisory Committee.

The Giving Project

Be part of the next Giving Project cohort: Maine Initiatives is part of The Giving Project, a network of nine progressive funders across the country dedicated to moving money and power to their local grassroots organizing ecosystem. All Giving Projects share the same proven model: engaging a cross-race and cross-class regional cohort to invest their time and energy together in political education, relationship building, community connection, and resourcing movements.

Our second Giving Project cohort is currently underway, working together to collectively resource the 2025-2026 Giving Project Fund for Community Organizing.

Interested in being part of our next Giving Project Cohort, kicking off in September 2026? Fill out this general interest form and we will stay in touch.
