More than $500,000 to Grassroots Organizations in Maine!

Thanks to the incredible support of donors like you, we are making a second round of emergency support grants to grassroots organizations in Maine. With $309,420 distributed last month, and another $207,500 going out this week, we are proud to distribute a total of $516,920 in grants directly into the hands of community leaders responding to this crisis!

Since the beginning of this pandemic we have made grants to 57 organizations that are providing critical leadership in this moment by:

  • Connecting people to immediate assistance, like the Cambodian Community Association of Maine delivering food directly to immigrant families affected by the Tyson Foods Outbreak.
  • Advocating on behalf of community members that are the most directly impacted, like the Wabanaki Women’s Coalition’s work to protect and support Indigenous women that are victims and survivors of domestic abuse.
  • Building a road map for the long term response to injustices being exacerbated by this crisis, like the Southern Maine Workers’ Center’s campaign for Healthcare as a Human Right for all Mainers.

These grants represent a combination of funds raised from the community through the COVID-19 Community Care Fund to support racial justice organizations, and the Immigrant-Led Organizations Fund made possible through contributions from the members of the Immigrant & Refugee Funders Collaborative to support immigrant-led and immigrant-serving organizations.

These organizations are powerful: they understand what a moment of crisis requires and they are adapting and organizing to respond. We are proud to support the following organizations shining a light on the path forward in these dark times:

These grants provide general operating support intended to sustain these organizations as they do their vital work in the days and weeks to come. We will continue our work to raise funds and make sustaining grants to these organizations doing critical work in our communities as the pandemic continues.  If you would like to support this essential work, you can make a donation here!
