Maine Initiatives is focused on bringing people together around shared values and working towards collective action. We strive to be a bridge between individuals who want to live their values, and the pressing needs and movements surfaced by the BIPOC communities leading racial justice work in our state.  Here are some ways to stay connected to our work:

Newsletter Signup

Sign up for our monthly eNews: This is a great way to stay informed about our programs, the work of our grantees, calls for community action, and opportunities to get involved.

Become a Reader

Sign up to be a Proposal Reader: Maine Initiatives convenes a broad base of community members to assist in the decision-making process for our programs. Look out for our Reader Opportunity Announcements (ROAs) across our participatory grantmaking programs. ROAs are an open call for volunteers to review and evaluate grant proposals from applicant organizations, and learn more about racial justice work happening in Maine, unceded Wabanaki Territory.

Grantmaking Advisory Committee

Apply to be part of a Grantmaking Advisory Committee: Volunteer Proposal Readers for any grantmaking program can apply to be part of the Grantmaking Advisory Committee. Committee members convene and work together to identify final grantee cohorts every year.

The Giving Project

Be part of our first Giving Project cohort: Maine Initiatives has joined The Giving Project, a network of nine progressive funders across the country dedicated to moving money and power to their local grassroots organizing ecosystem. All Giving Projects share the same proven model: engaging a cross-race and cross-class regional cohort to invest their time and energy together in political education, relationship building, community connection, and resourcing movements.
