Giving Tuesday: Thank You.

THANK YOU.

I’d like to thank everyone who participated in Giving Tuesday yesterday – whether it was supporting Maine Initiatives directly or any of the other wonderful Maine-based nonprofit organizations that are working to make sure our state reflects the motto “the way life should be.”

As a social media phenomenon, it was a whirlwind of emails, Facebook posts, YouTube videos, Tweets, Likes, Shares, and more. But, amid the clamor was a powerful hum of compassion, community, and solidarity. And giving.

It was — by far — our biggest day of online giving EVER! By every measure.

In one day, we received donations from FOUR TIMES the number of online donors to Maine Initiatives in all of 2015! Those donors gave more than DOUBLE our previous total online giving for the year! And most inspiring to me: more than half of the donations yesterday came from FIRST-TIME donors to Maine Initiatives: people who are stepping up to be a part of a movement for social, economic, and environmental justice.

The numbers matter, but we also recognize that every gift — whether it is $10 or $1,500 — is an individual act in support of our collective vision of a more just and equitable Maine.

Every person counts. Every donation matters.

So thank you.
