Maine Inside Out
Maine Inside Out’s work is rooted in the notion that art is a powerful medium for individual and collective transformation. MIO collaborates with incarcerated and formerly incarcerated people to create and share original theater that challenges and transforms our notions of “criminal” and “justice.” Their work improves outcomes for young people returning home after incarceration, and works toward a community where incarceration is no longer necessary. A Maine Initiatives grant recently supported several days of training for staff, board members, and community partners by The Catalyst Project, designed and implemented to help the organization and its stakeholders more effectively understand, challenge, and dismantle the racism and other forms of oppression faced by members of our community. The training provided MIO with essential tools, training, practice, and guidance to address root causes of discrimination and racial injustice.
