Environment Maine Research & Policy Center
Our natural resources and assets are an integral part of who we are as Mainers. They are both our collective inheritance and the legacy that we leave to our children and grandchildren. We must be faithful stewards of these resources. Environment Maine Research & Policy Center plays a critically important role in building individual and collective capacity for effective stewardship and advocacy on behalf of our environmental values. Through research, education, outreach, technical assistance, and coalition building, Environment Maine builds grassroots power in support of pressing environmental concerns in Maine. Most recently, Environment Maine celebrated a major victory for organizing in South Portland, where working in partnership with a coalition of organizations, the community forestalled an effort to move toxic tar sands oil through our lands and waters. A Maine Initiatives grant to Environment Maine Research & Policy Center supported grassroots citizen activists and helped them to make their voices heard, fostering a nonpartisan conversation on climate change and empowering a local community to address ongoing challenges to environmental health.
